AR100 Ultra Compact Laser Displacement Sensor

The AR100 laser position sensors are ultra compact devices for dimensional measurement / The unit uses laser triangulation principles to accurately measure athigh speeds. The same mini enclosure houses models with ranges from 20 to 500 mm. Sensor options include blue laser diodes.

Principles of Operation

The AR100 is a triangulation sensor that measures distance by projecting a beam of laser light that creates a    spot on a target surface. Reflected light from the surface is viewed from an angle by a CMOS detector array inside the AR100 sensor. The target’s distance is calculated from the image pixel data using the sensor’s microprocessor. The distance is transmitted through serial communications, analog outputs are available.

A variety of models ( AR100-25 / AR100-50 / AR100-100 / AR100-250 / AR100-500 ) are specified, each to allow a different measurement range and standoff.

Definitions

Span: Working distance between measurement endpoints over which the sensor will reliably measure displacement
Standoff: Offset distance from the face of the sensor to the middle of the span. Accuracy is greatest at the standoff distance and the laser spot size is smallest at this focal point.

Linearity: The largest deviation from a best-fit straight line over the measurement range, created by data from the sensor with reference taken from a true distance scale. Stated as +/-% of the Span.
Resolution: Smallest increment of change in distance that a sensor can detect. Stated as % of the Span.
Sample Rate: Speed that data samples are obtained from the sensor.

AR700 Laser Displacement Sensor

Acuity introduces the AR700 series of laser displacement sensor for measuring position and object dimensions. Built on a decade of success with the predecessor AR600 laser sensor, industry users demanded faster and more accurate non-contact metrology equipment. The AccuRange 700 boasts output speeds to 9400 Hz and resolutions (model dependent) as low as one sixth of a micrometer.

The unit is very compact, measuring approximately 1 x 2 x 3" (25 x 50 x 75 mm), almost 80% smaller than its AR600 predecessor.

This Acuity digital sensor has selectable speeds up to 9400 Hz (when using 3-Byte Binary Data format). Don't be fooled by competitor's claims of higher speeds. Acuity laser distance sensors are unique and our specifications are straightforward. The device will in fact output 9400 distance readings in a single second. This is unlike our competitors who often quote the maximum sampling rate of their detector. This number is not real because the user will never see data output rates that high through serial or analog interfaces or the cumbersome controllers that are required to operate their sensor heads.

AR1000 Laser Distance Sensor

The Acuity laser distance sensor model AR1000 can measure 30 meters with an accuracy of 3 mm. Using a reflective target board,  the sensor will measure distances up to 150 meters. Ideal for measuring fill levels and material height monitoring, the AR1000 sensor can hold up to very tough environments.

The AR1000 laser distance sensor is ideal for crane and hoist applications, position measurement, or for monitoring fill levels of bulk material. The unique sensor uses phase shift comparison measurement principles (of light) to accurately measure distances of 30 meters. Longer ranges to 150 meters are possible with the use of reflective target boards (3M Scotchlite 3279).

Typical speeds for the AR1000 laser distance sensor are 6 Hz, but 50 Hz sampling can be realized with white targets at close ranges with small target movements.

CCS Prima White Light Confocal Displacement Sensor

The AccuRange™ CCS Prima white light confocal displacement sensor is the most precise measurement system from Acuity. Using white light LED, the system employs a unique measuring principle that separates emitted light into different colors and then uses a detector to identify the reflected color signal.

The AccuRange™ CCS Prima white light confocal displacement sensor is the most precise measurement system from Acuity. Using a novel optical principle of measuring the reflected light’s component wavelengths, these confocal displacement sensors measure distance and position to within tens of nanometers. These compact probes can measure to opaque, shiny or even transparent surfaces.

Unlike the other Acuity distance sensors, the Prima Confocal systems are comprised of an optical measurement "pen" and a separate controller. This controller houses all of the electronics, light source, etc. Only emitted white light and reflected signals are passed between the pen and the controller via a thin fiber-optic transmission cable.

The Chromatic-Confocal Sensors (CCS) are offered in a variety of measurement ranges and standoff distances, each with corresponding resolutions. The shortest-range models resolve to 5 nanometers of height change!

CCS Initial White Light Confocal Dosplacement Sensor

The CCS Initial White Light Confocal Sensor is Acuity's value model for ultra-precise displacement and transparent material thickness measurements. This system includes a measurement probe, controller and fiber optic cable, making it  user-friendly for benchtop users and system integrators alike.

The CCS Initial confocal sensors are extremely precise point sensors for measuring displacement and thickness. Each system includes a controller unit, a fiber optic cable, an optical measuring probe and all necessary cables and software. The CCS Initial confocal sensors measure distance and topography of varied targets, including silicon, polished metals, glass, contoured lenses, polymers, semiconductor masks and natural materials. The technology in these confocal sensors support nanometer-scale measurement resolutions.

Acuity offers the CCS Initial confocal sensors with five different measurement models that range from 0.4 to 12.0 mm and one miniaturized probe with a 90° beam path for measuring inside of narrow tubes. Distance data is transmitted by the controller unit via USB or RS232 interfaces to PLC's, PC computers or other system controllers. Data may be synchronized with encoders or triggered with hardware signals through the controller's TTL I/O.

Choose the CCS Initial confocal sensors for the most challenging displacement or thickness measuring applications. The sensor system automatically adjusts the brightness of the light source (LED lamp) for optimal signals on highly reflective targets. A special Thickness Mode enables the sensor to measure the thickness of transparent glasses, crystals and polymers using a single probe!
