Product Description

CCS Prima Confocal Displacement Sensor

The AccuRange™ CCS Prima white light confocal displacement sensor is the most precise measurement system from Acuity. Using white light LED, the system employs a unique measuring principle that separates emitted light into different colors and then uses a detector to identify the reflected color signal.

Overview:-
The AccuRange™ CCS Prima white light confocal displacement sensor is the most precise measurement system from Acuity. Using a novel optical principle of measuring the reflected light’s component wavelengths, these confocal displacement sensors measure distance and position to within tens of nanometers. These compact probes can measure to opaque, shiny or even transparent surfaces.

Unlike the other Acuity distance sensors, the Prima Confocal systems are comprised of an optical measurement "pen" and a separate controller. This controller houses all of the electronics, light source, etc. Only emitted white light and reflected signals are passed between the pen and the controller via a thin fiber-optic transmission cable.

The Chromatic-Confocal Sensors (CCS) are offered in a variety of measurement ranges and standoff distances, each with corresponding resolutions. The shortest-range models resolve to 5 nanometers of height change!

Technical Data :-
Acuity's most accurate and most resolute distance sensor employs a unique measuring principle, confocal chromatic sensing. Unlike our time-of-flight and triangulation sensors which use lasers, the CCS Prima Confocal displacement sensors use a white light source to accurately measure the distance to surfaces. Some models are accurate to within 20 nanometers. Additionally, this technology permits measurement and profile of transparent materials like glass, lenses, liquids, etc.

The essence of our confocal chromatic imaging principle is the accurate detection of colors from light that is reflected back from target surfaces. The white light is focused onto the target surface by a multi-lens optical system. These lenses disperse the light into monochromatic stages (colors) along the measurement axis. A specific distance to the target is assigned to each color’s wavelength in a factory calibration. Only the wavelength which is exactly focussed on the target is used for the measurement. This light reflected from the target surface is transmitted from the probe, through a confocal aperture and onto a spectrometer which detects and processes the spectral changes and calculates distances. These distance measurements are transmitted at high speed via ethernet communications protocol.

Specialty Cables :-
CCS Prima systems can be ordered with optical fibers of special length or jacket material. Longer cable lengths include 4 and 10 meter lengths. Optional stainless steel-clad cables protect the optical fiber in harsh environments.

Light Sources :-
The CCS Prima is standard with a white LED-based lamp. Optionally, you can order your system with more powerful Xenon arc external light sources. These generators are available in 125, 175 or 300 Watt versions. Spare halogen bulbs can also be ordered.
