Definitions
Span: Working distance between measurement endpoints over which the sensor will reliably measure displacement Standoff: Offset distance from the face of the sensor to the middle of the span. Accuracy is greatest at the standoff distance and the laser spot size is smallest at this focal point.
Linearity: The largest deviation from a best-fit straight line over the measurement range, created by data from the sensor with reference taken from a true distance scale. Stated as +/-% of the Span. Resolution: Smallest increment of change in distance that a sensor can detect. Stated as % of the Span. Sample Rate: Speed that data samples are obtained from the sensor.

AR700 Laser Displacement Sensor
Acuity introduces the AR700 series of laser displacement sensor for measuring position and object dimensions. Built on a decade of success with the predecessor AR600 laser sensor, industry users demanded faster and more accurate non-contact metrology equipment. The AccuRange 700 boasts output speeds to 9400 Hz and resolutions (model dependent) as low as one sixth of a micrometer.
The unit is very compact, measuring approximately 1 x 2 x 3" (25 x 50 x 75 mm), almost 80% smaller than its AR600 predecessor.
This Acuity digital sensor has selectable speeds up to 9400 Hz (when using 3-Byte Binary Data format). Don't be fooled by competitor's claims of higher speeds. Acuity laser distance sensors are unique and our specifications are straightforward. The device will in fact output 9400 distance readings in a single second. This is unlike our competitors who often quote the maximum sampling rate of their detector. This number is not real because the user will never see data output rates that high through serial or analog interfaces or the cumbersome controllers that are required to operate their sensor heads.

AR1000 Laser Distance Sensor
The Acuity laser distance sensor model AR1000 can measure 30 meters with an accuracy of 3 mm. Using a reflective target board, the sensor will measure distances up to 150 meters. Ideal for measuring fill levels and material height monitoring, the AR1000 sensor can hold up to very tough environments.
The AR1000 laser distance sensor is ideal for crane and hoist applications, position measurement, or for monitoring fill levels of bulk material. The unique sensor uses phase shift comparison measurement principles (of light) to accurately measure distances of 30 meters. Longer ranges to 150 meters are possible with the use of reflective target boards (3M Scotchlite 3279).
Typical speeds for the AR1000 laser distance sensor are 6 Hz, but 50 Hz sampling can be realized with white targets at close ranges with small target movements.

CCS Prima White Light Confocal Displacement Sensor
The AccuRange™ CCS Prima white light confocal displacement sensor is the most precise measurement system from Acuity. Using white light LED, the system employs a unique measuring principle that separates emitted light into different colors and then uses a detector to identify the reflected color signal.
The AccuRange™ CCS Prima white light confocal displacement sensor is the most precise measurement system from Acuity. Using a novel optical principle of measuring the reflected light’s component wavelengths, these confocal displacement sensors measure distance and position to within tens of nanometers. These compact probes can measure to opaque, shiny or even transparent surfaces.
Unlike the other Acuity distance sensors, the Prima Confocal systems are comprised of an optical measurement "pen" and a separate controller. This controller houses all of the electronics, light source, etc. Only emitted white light and reflected signals are passed between the pen and the controller via a thin fiber-optic transmission cable.
The Chromatic-Confocal Sensors (CCS) are offered in a variety of measurement ranges and standoff distances, each with corresponding resolutions. The shortest-range models resolve to 5 nanometers of height change!
